Introduction
At INGLOT, we prioritize the health and safety of our customers. To enhance our product control, we collaborate with the Centrum SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre in Cracow, utilizing advanced synchrotron technology. Our aim is to create a comfy space, in which everyone would be encouraged to explore the science and beauty world.
On 24-28 June 2024 in Athens, Greece took place the European X-ray Spectrometry Conference, on which together with SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre we had the opportunity to present the project on POLYX beamilne.
The experiment
During this year’s edition of EXRS we established the detection limits of chemicals in loose cosmetics using the X-ray fluorescence method. This technique allows for rapid, non-destructive analysis of samples, aligning with green chemistry principles by minimizing energy and chemical use in sample preparation. Moreover, we examined the stability of loose cosmetics, analyzing the elemental composition of both fresh and deliberately aged products. There were a lot of poster sessions and lectures concerning various applications of XRF methods.
The experiment was carried out at PolyX beamline at SOLARIS NSRC. All the measurements were done with the excitation energy of 15.4 keV acquired with multilayer monochromator (Mo-B4C layers) at 45°/45°geometry. The detection limits are about 0.2 µg/g depending on the kind of powder. The new approach for fast evaluation of chemical elements content in pigments has been developed and validated. In conducted experiments it was shown that XRF can be used for the rapid screening tests in order to determine chemical elements. This eliminates the need for sample preparation and it is in accordance with responsible chemistry.
About the conference
The EXRS is a biennial conference series that started in 1984 in Gothenburg, Sweden. This conference has become a traditional meeting for scientists from around the world working in X-ray spectrometry or using one of its several techniques. It represents an exciting discussion forum for basic research and applications of X-ray spectrometry in a vast array of fields like materials, science, chemistry, radiation physics, medicine, biology, environment, cultural heritage, technology and industry.
We are so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful scientific community. Our participation in the European X-ray Spectrometry Conference underscores our commitment to scientific excellence and innovation in ensuring the highest quality and safety standards for our customers. We are looking forward to continuing our scientific growth!
